My parents are considering adding a 17x27 sunroom to the front of their house, and they've already received quotes around $175k. I find this cost to be pretty outrageous, but I'm not an expert on home renovations. Can anyone shed some light on whether this is a typical price range for a project like this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That $175k isn’t totally out in left field. Given the size and open design of the room, a lot may be going toward structural support like engineered beams. Plus, windows and doors can really add up. If you're in a snowy region, foundation considerations will also drive costs up.
Yeah, but almost $400 per square foot is a tough pill to swallow! I get costs are rising, but that seems excessive.
There's no real 'normal' cost for adding a sunroom, but if you're getting multiple quotes that are similar, your parents might just be looking at the going rate for this type of project. Think about all the factors – foundation work, walls, finishes, electrical systems, windows, and more. A good contractor can give you a breakdown to help clarify the estimates.
I've heard of quotes in the 100k to 150k range for similar projects in Minnesota, so while it’s on the higher end, it might not be totally off base.
