Hey everyone! I'm an architecture student working on a model that features a curved wall measuring about 15 inches long, 5.25 inches tall, and 0.25 inches thick. The curve is supposed to be a gentle 30-degree angle along the long side, but I'm struggling to get the wood to bend properly. I initially tried soaking it in near boiling water until it was thoroughly soaked, but it didn't work as expected. Any tips on how to effectively bend basswood would be greatly appreciated!

Just a heads up, your wood might have warped from the water exposure. Here’s a picture I took for reference – it looks like the bending part is crucial for your design, so definitely check out some aero model supplies. Birch plywood is super flexible, and it comes in different thicknesses. You could also try different adhesives like PVA or CA if you decide to glue the pieces together.
Have you thought about using bending plywood instead? It's designed specifically for curves and can save you a lot of hassle. If your project allows for it, you might find it easier to work with compared to traditional basswood.
I would recommend getting some bendy plywood from Amazon or visiting a local lumber yard. Also, instead of using boiling water, steam might be a better option to prevent damage to your wood. Using solid wood instead of plywood can also help in achieving the right bend without complications.
