Has anyone converted a sliding glass door into a window?

I'm looking to replace an old sliding glass door (100Wx83H) with a window that's approximately 100Wx45H. This is in an open kitchen space, and I want to have wall-to-wall cabinets underneath it, similar to an idea I found. We have French doors in our den leading to the yard, so we really don't need another set of doors just ten feet away from that. Has anyone done a project like this? Any tips or insights?

Converting a sliding glass door to a window isn't too difficult! You can keep the existing header, which simplifies things. Consider using two or three smaller windows side by side to potentially save some cash. Just remove the old door and frame in some studs for the new window(s). The biggest challenge is usually matching the outdoor siding, but once you finish the interior with drywall, you can add your cabinets later!

Thanks! Siding should be easy, it's just stucco. And we may reface that side of the house at some point anyway.
