I've been dealing with a weird issue in my two-story townhome. We typically use air conditioning and fans, but recently, with the warm weather, we started opening windows. The problem is, when I open a window in my downstairs office, a strong gas-like smell starts to fill the room. It seems to get worse the longer the window stays open. Just to clarify, there are no gas lines in my home; I had the gas company check for leaks, but nothing came up. The office is by a bathroom, and I don't notice the smell coming from there specifically, but it definitely impacts the upstairs too. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

You might want to consider if the bathroom next door is rarely used. Sometimes if a bathroom isn't used much, the traps can dry out, and that might allow sewer gas to seep in. Try running water in the taps to see if that helps! Also, check outside for any vents because sewer gases could be pooling outside your home and getting sucked in when you open the window.
The bathroom gets used about 10 times a day! I've been in there a lot too, but I'll check for vents outside.
