I recently hired a local family-owned company to fix two broken springs on my garage door. However, I later found out that they subcontracted the job without informing me, and the subcontractor charged me a whopping $3000, claiming it included a warranty. To make matters worse, the invoice had different numbers from those of the company I called initially, and both the 1-800 and local numbers on the invoice led straight to him. I feel really foolish about the whole situation.

Yikes! I just got a full door installed for $2100, and that included everything! You've got to be careful and always get at least three quotes before committing to any repair.
Right? Always better to shop around than to get hit like this.
$3000 is outrageous for spring replacement! If you agreed to that price upfront and didn't shop around for estimates, it's tough to claim a scam. But that price is far above what most people pay! Did they just not tell you beforehand what you were getting into?
Exactly, it feels abusive if the price goes that high without being explained. Unless there’s something special about your door, it should've been way cheaper!

Wow, that's a crazy price! I only paid $350 for a similar job last year. The guy came out super quick and finished in around 45 minutes. He even lubed my door tracks for free. You definitely got taken for a ride here!
It's a real shame. I get it—we all trust local businesses. But you have to protect yourself too!
