Hey everyone! I'm planning a big renovation for my home, which includes a remodel of the basement and the installation of two window wells at the front. I'm also looking to replace the siding, gutters, faucets, and trim, add an overhang with two pillars above the front door, and replace the front sidewalk. I'm considering expanding the driveway to connect with the new sidewalk, plus I'll need a new front door and retiling in the foyer. I have three questions: 1. Should I hire a general contractor for the entire project or tackle it piece by piece? 2. What's the best sequence for completing these tasks? 3. Is it possible to spread the work over different years and still have everything look cohesive?

It sounds like a big project! For the basement, you might want to hire a general contractor since a lot of the rest of your plans are specialized tasks. Managing everything on your own could become overwhelming, especially with the multiple aspects in play. Plus, a GC can help with the timeline and coordination which is super important for a seamless finish.
I’d recommend doing your siding and gutters first. Once that's done, you can focus on the interior stuff like the basement and foyer. As for timing, spreading renovations over the years is totally doable! Just plan it out so that if you do different parts later, they'll still fit into the overall aesthetic you want.
