I'm facing a challenge with my kitchen setup. There's a 12-inch register located right under a roll-out base cabinet that is also 12 inches wide. My contractor suggests that we just install the cabinet over the register and add a grille to the toe kick. However, I've been looking into toe ducts and can't find any that are smaller than 10 inches wide to fit under the cabinet. What would be the best solution? Should I modify the register to make it smaller, or is there another option?

I faced a similar situation! What worked for me was using a 6" x 12" thin wall oval stack head duct fitting. I got it from a home improvement store. I modified it by cutting and bending the sides to create tabs, then screwed it into the subfloor with some sealant underneath and duct tape on top. I topped it off with a toe kick register, and it works perfectly with good airflow. It's a solid DIY fix!
I would recommend cutting down a duct to fit your space. Since it’s just sheet metal, it’s pretty easy! You can make a makeshift brake from the edge of a workbench using a couple of 2x4s to bend it into the shape you need.
But is that 12 inches wide? My register is 4x12, and I need something that fits under my 10-inch wide cabinet.
