I'm dealing with a bit of an awkward situation here. My neighbor's house, which they rebuilt after a fire, is towering over my property, and it's making my deck feel exposed. I've recently put up a privacy fence, but it's not cutting it for my elevated deck. I'm considering adding privacy walls and an awning closest to their house. I've heard mixed things about HOFT fences. Also, I'm thinking a pergola could do the trick to add some privacy overhead, and I could use curtains or shades for the side that faces my neighbor. Are pergolas too heavy for a deck? What are some other options I could explore? Thanks in advance for your help!

Definitely check out sun sails! They’re affordable, easy to set up, and come in various designs. I’ve had mine for years, and they add a nice touch while offering great privacy. You can even layer them for a cool visual effect!
I love sun sails for overhead privacy, but what can I do about the side closest to my neighbor’s house? Their first-floor windows are right at my deck level. Are there any vertical sun sails available?
Have you thought about using shade sails? They can be angled to provide privacy without blocking too much light. They're pretty versatile too!

That's interesting! I had a friend who used them on their back deck in coastal Maine about a decade ago. They handled storms pretty well, surprisingly!
