How Can I Stop Light from Seeping in Around My Blackout Shades?

Asked By SleepyJoe87 On

I've been struggling with light leaking in around the edges of my roll-down blackout shades, which makes it almost impossible to sleep past dawn. Even though I can't wear an eye mask due to styes and discomfort from my CPAP, I'm looking for a solution. My wife suggested adding a blackout film, but she enjoys seeing the sky. I also feel that curtains would be too bulky and would interfere with my headboard. So, I'm reaching out for creative ideas to help me get some better sleep!

You might want to consider using Velcro to attach curtains to the window casing, which helps create a seal when you're sleeping. It can make a significant difference in blocking out that pesky light!

I'd also suggest looking into those L-brackets specifically designed for inside-mount blackout treatments. They can help minimize light leakage, but keep in mind they might not block everything completely. Worth a shot!

Yeah, I've tried those too, and while they help a bit, they still allow some light through.

If you're still seeing light leaking, maybe add some blackout Roman shades mounted outside the window frame. This can help with both the top and sides where light tends to sneak in. Plus, it can keep the aesthetic you're looking for without blocking the sky too much!

One effective solution is to go for actual curtains that can be mounted outside the shades. A wraparound curtain rod that curves towards the wall can really help block out side light. This setup provides better coverage and keeps everything looking neat!
