I'm in the process of removing an old pool heater that's no longer in use and I want to make sure there's no exposed gas line left on my property afterwards. I feel like even if it's professionally capped, it's still a liability and quite the eyesore. Can anyone advise me on the best way to get this gas line dug up and completely removed? Should I contact the gas company, a plumber, or someone else? Thanks for your help!

First things first, find where the gas line branches off from your home, usually in the basement or crawlspace. Disconnect it there—just make sure it’s safe first! After that's done, the line is basically just an empty pipe, so you can either cut it back out of sight or remove it completely. Just remember to check if you need any permits for this. You could also call your local gas utility for help if you're unsure.
