I'm trying to figure out the best option for a string trimmer for my yard. Right now, I've got an electric Black & Decker with two batteries that struggle to keep up; one battery only covers about 20% of the area before it runs out. I have a half-acre lot with a wooden fence, eight raised beds, and some fruit trees, so I'd love something that lasts longer on a single charge. I'm leaning towards gas trimmers but I'm concerned about the noise because I have some hearing loss and tinnitus, plus emissions due to asthma. I'm considering a Ryobi electric trimmer since I already have the batteries for my mower, but I've also looked at the Husqvarna 122L and Stihl 56. Any recommendations for good gas or electric trimmers that won't break the bank (keeping it under $250)?

If you're leaning more towards electric, my Ryobi has changed my trimming game. It can do most of my yard on just half a charge and it’s way quieter than my old gas trimmer. Plus, no more fumes! You might want to stick with electric if those are your concerns.
I find that electric is way easier to handle and maintain as well. Less hassle overall!
From what you’ve described, it might be wise to go for a gas trimmer. Modern models like the Husqvarna 525L run efficiently and with little smell if you’re using quality synthetic oil. It’s powerful enough for your needs—more than capable of handling your whole yard on a single tank!
The 525L sounds intriguing, especially if it can cover a lot of ground. Just make sure you’re okay with a bit of maintenance.
I've had a great experience with gas trimmers in the past as well, and if you get a good one, it can last you for years!
I've heard great things about the Echo SRM 225; it's a solid choice for the price and works well with attachments if you decide to expand. Plus, it's lightweight and durable enough to last for years, making it perfect for personal use. Definitely check it out!
I've seen that model around and it seems to have a good reputation. It's nice to hear that it can last with commercial use too!
I agree, Echo products usually have good parts and last long. It could definitely be a worthy investment for a home trimmer.

Sounds like a great option! It’s nice to have a quiet machine while still getting the job done.
