I've been leaving a patch of my lawn unmowed during the summer for the past couple of years, and I'm looking to liven it up with some flowers. I'm not keen on tearing up the turf to plant seeds directly in bare soil. Are there any flowers or wildflowers that can thrive alongside the grass without one choking out the other?

I've got common dog-violets that self-seed all over my garden, and let's not overlook dandelions—they're quite useful!
I've got plenty of wildflowers in my lawn, but we keep the mower on a higher setting. Many wildflowers struggle in long grass, which is why nature preserves often use sheep to keep the grass trimmed. White clover is fantastic since it bounces back quickly after mowing, and bees love it too!
Bulbs can be an awesome choice! They spread well and won't mess with the grass. Daffodils, glory of the snow, and crocuses are perfect. And don't forget some daisies! You can grow them from seed in trays or even dig up squares of turf from elsewhere. They establish really easily!
That's a great idea! I love the thought of adding some bulbs, I’ll have to check out the seeds.
Dandelions actually have a lot of benefits, don’t they? Wish I could embrace them more!
