I'm trying to figure out if I can use a hammer drill to create a sump pit in my concrete basement floor. Is that a viable option, or should I be looking for something else?

Using a hammer drill could make the task take forever. I’d suggest renting a mini jackhammer instead. It’ll save you a ton of time and effort!
You’ll definitely want a proper jackhammer for this job. A sledgehammer and a shovel might come in handy too once you break through the concrete. It’s tough work, especially if it's your first time tackling a DIY project like this.
For the best results, go with an SDS Max rotary hammer and a chisel bit—ideally a light-duty electric jackhammer works really well for breaking it apart. Start by chiseling out the center to avoid cracks in the surrounding concrete.
