Hey everyone! I've got a couple of lilac bushes that have grown out of control and I'm looking for the best way to get them back to a more manageable bush form. I suspect they're not the tree variety since they have multiple trunks. Any tips on how to proceed? The ideal time to trim lilacs is right after they bloom, so you don't sacrifice next year's flowers. Although it might seem harsh, the best approach is to cut the oldest, thickest trunk all the way down to the ground. This allows more sunlight and space for the younger trunks, which will produce stronger blooms. Just be careful not to overdo it!
