I have a woodpecker hole that's getting bigger on one of the wood shingles on my second floor. It's hard for me to tackle because it's almost three stories up, so I'm looking for advice on who to hire for a repair. Should I go for a carpenter, a handyman, or maybe a siding company? I'm unsure who handles such a small job.

You might want to call a handyman for this kind of repair. I dealt with a similar issue last summer and used bondo to patch a couple of holes. Just keep in mind that woodpeckers often return to the same spot after you close it up, so it's a temporary fix at best!
A siding company might not be willing to take on a small job like this, but a handyman definitely would. One option is to fill the hole with spray foam and then cover it with a short piece of siding. For a more permanent solution, you could have a segment of siding replaced. But be careful with the height; you might need a boom lift or scaffolding for safety!
I totally agree, better to be safe with height! I had a similar issue and ended up regretting not using scaffolding.
