Patio Doors in the Bedroom: Need Ideas for Keeping Them Open While Keeping My Cats Safe!

Asked By DreamyCatlvr77 On

I'm moving into a rental that has patio doors as the only source of ventilation for the bedroom, and they open outwards. I'd love to enjoy a nice breeze during hot weather, but I want to ensure that both my cats, who can't go outside due to medical issues, and my home are secure while I sleep. Does anyone have suggestions for keeping the doors opened just enough to let in air without compromising safety? I'm looking for renter-friendly solutions since I'm not sure how much I can modify the property. Thanks!

Consider installing a screen door! There are magnetic screen options that fit into existing tracks, or even those removable mesh screens that won't damage the doors. They're perfect for letting air in while keeping your cats safely inside.

Check out pet stores for screened door inserts specifically designed for pets. Many of them come with a cat flap, allowing the cats to enjoy some fresh air on a balcony while keeping the door secure. It was super useful for me when I rented an apartment!

If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, a simple stick can be used to hold the door in place, but make sure it's the right length. Also, a security door bar can help limit how wide the slider opens, keeping your pets safe while allowing some airflow.
