Is Wood Siding A High Maintenance and Costly Option?

I'm curious about the upkeep for wood siding. How challenging is it really to maintain, and what are the costs associated with it? Specifically, I'm interested in expenses like pest control and the price to repaint and seal a 3,000 sqft house. Any insights would be appreciated!

From my experience in pest control, I’d say wood siding can be quite a hassle. It's like an open invitation for birds and squirrels, which can lead to some serious headaches. For me, I’d think twice before living in a house with wood siding again, it’s just too much trouble!

What about cedar shake siding? I really love the look but my vinyl is getting old. Is cedar just as bad in terms of pests?

I had wood siding in my previous home and it turned into a money pit. Repainting every 5-7 years costs a fortune and you'll find yourself fighting woodpecker damage and moisture issues constantly. Honestly, if you're not committed to the wood look, you might be better off exploring other materials.

Honestly, woodpeckers are just relentless. You can't escape their damage if you go with wood siding.
