I'm looking for some recommendations on plants that I can grow in clay-like soil. My goal is to create a garden that attracts bees, as I'm a big fan of them. However, I also want to find ways to discourage wasps since I have a bit of a phobia about those guys. Any suggestions on what would thrive in this type of soil?

Clay soil can actually be beneficial; it's packed with nutrients! What I did is create a larger planting hole than typical, added compost and some grit to enhance drainage, and then picked plants like Columbines and Delphiniums. Those attract bees and also thrive in clay, so good luck experimenting with different colors to create a bloom-filled paradise!
Lavender is a great choice since it attracts bees and supposedly repels wasps! However, keep in mind that it may not thrive in heavy clay soil, so you'll want to amend the soil first. Making sure to break up the clay and mixing in compost or sand for drainage would help any plants flourish.
Definitely a good point about the soil; if you amend it right, you might still be able to grow lavender!
Has anyone tried planting tulips in clay? I mixed mine with some compost, and they’re doing really well! Roses are another option; they love clay soil and can be stunning in a garden. Don't forget to check out the RHS website for more options suitable for clay soil!
Tulips sound lovely! I’ve heard that Iris and Fuchsias also do well in clay soil—another good option!
