Best Ways to Secure a Steel Rod Horizontally on a Metal Surface

I have an 8-inch long, half-inch diameter steel rod that I need to secure horizontally to a metal surface. The surface has a line of holes, which might be helpful. I need the rod to stay in place since it will be getting gently pounded or banged. I can only fasten it at the ends, and it's important to note that the rod is not threaded. Initially, I thought about using an eye bolt, but that won't work since the eye can't properly grip the rod. I'm considering other options, maybe something like two eye bolts with a clamping mechanism.

If you can’t weld, maybe consider using U bolts to grip the rod at the ends. They should hold it pretty steady and allow for some adjustment if necessary.

You could also try a flat bracket that goes over the rod and bolts down onto the table. If you can find V brackets, those would give you a good grip on the rod as well. Just make sure to tighten the bolts well!

Flat brackets could work well, but I’d go for the V brackets if available. They really keep the rod stable.

Welding would be the way to go if you have that option. It’s the most secure method for keeping that rod in place, especially if it’s going to take some hits. If not, using a clamp could work, but make sure it’s strong enough to handle the force.

Definitely agree! A good weld will hold it firm without any worries about movement.
