Tips for Replacing Washer Water Valves: Need Guidance!

Hey everyone! My wife and I just bought our first home and are in the process of replacing our washer and dryer. During delivery, the installer noticed that the hot water valve has a slight leak even when it's off, and the cold water valve won't turn on or off at all; it just spins. He mentioned that we can do the valve replacements ourselves, which sounds manageable.

I picked up a couple of hot water valves and plumber's tape from Home Depot and found the main water shut-off at the street. Before diving in, I want to make sure I've got all the steps down.

From what I gather, I should shut off the water supply at the street with a meter key, and then open the sink until the water flow stops. I assume I'll need to drain the hot water from the water heater, but can I just let it run until the tank is empty? Are there any important things I should keep in mind for draining?

Once everything is drained, I plan to use two wrenches—one for holding the pipe steady and the other to unscrew the valves. Then I'll wrap the new valves with tape on the threads and reinstall them. After that, I should be set to turn the water back on and check for leaks. Does this sound correct? Any advice or tips would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
