Hey everyone! I'm diving into some DIY projects that involve a framework motherboard, and I'm looking to build a prototype enclosure to test dimensions and keep everything together. I'm searching for a hand moldable material that can harden into a rigid form (so no to sugru, obviously). I've heard of apoxie clay among other options, but I'm curious if anyone here has experience using such materials for electronics enclosures. I think epoxy clay is a solid choice, but one thing to keep in mind is the working time—it can be a bit short. Maybe look into Bondo too if you mix it thick, but again, be mindful of the time you have to work with it. It's all about finding that balance!
Totally doable! I used to work with Sculpey clay for the structure and then added epoxy clay for the finer details. It sets nice and rigid! Just a heads-up, when you’re mixing up the epoxy, you’ll need a bit of patience to get the details right, but it's worth it for durability.
Have you thought about oven-bake clay? I've had great luck with polymer clay in the past. If you're working with thinner pieces, rolling it out on metal window screening works really well. Plus, something like CosClay gives you some flex during the molding process!
