I'm looking to cut a groove for a spline on the end of a 12-foot butcher block countertop. The goal is to install either a 1/4" or 1/8" spline to prevent splitting. Since I can't just tip the countertop up and run it through my table saw, I'm considering other options. Would using a palm router work, or do I need to get creative with my track saw setup? Any suggestions?

I'd go for a slot bit in a router. It would be a clean and precise way to cut that groove you need for the spline. Just make sure you keep your router steady!
You might also consider using a biscuit joiner with the fence. Just run it along the edge and it should do the trick.
A picture would help clarify things. Is it an end grain countertop? And are you making the spline run the full 12 feet or just across the corners?
