I live in an older home built in 1927, and it still has its original cedar siding. We got the house painted in mid-March this year here in Seattle, and I've noticed that a few weeks after the job, the siding started to split.
I'm really concerned about this. Is this a major issue?
What should I do to fix it?
Could the painter have done something to prevent this from happening? And if I talk to them about it, do you think they'll help make it right?

It sounds like your cedar siding might have had a stain before the paint was applied. Cedar is often stained, and if it was painted over without properly prepping the surface, that can definitely lead to cracking. Have you checked if the previous paint job was done correctly?
