I'm looking for advice on what kinds of ground cover work best for paths between my garden beds. I've seen a few designs using different materials like mulch, gravel, and tarps, but I'm curious about the pros and cons of each based on real experiences. What do you all recommend?

My go-to is wood chips! I dig out the paths and fill them with a thick layer of chips. It gives me more dirt for the beds, reduces weeds, and is comfy to walk on. Just need to rake them back every once in a while, and they break down naturally into the soil over time. It’s a pretty clean setup too!
I honestly just walk and wear a path into the ground. If I had the budget for it, I'd use gravel with a low stone border. It sounds like a solid idea for creating nice walking paths!
I use a thick layer of mulch because it really helps with the slippery, muddy conditions caused by clay soil. It does have its downsides, like the invasive grasses that still pop up and the need for regular weeding, but at least I don’t have to worry about twisting my ankle in a muddy mess!
I’m just starting out in my new garden and right now, I’m sticking with grass between the beds. I want paths that are easy to walk on without sinking into mud or needing special shoes. I've tried straw, and it's so messy! Tarps or plastic coverings are an eyesore and trap too much moisture. Grass is low maintenance since I can just mow it, which saves time. I've used pavers before too, but found them to be more hassle to maintain than just keeping the grass!
