How Can I Get Rid of Cigarette Smell in My Apartment?

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a tough situation in my apartment. My neighbor smokes, and the smell has been sneaking through the walls into my place, especially noticeable around the wall socket. The building's ventilation system wasn't working properly, which probably made things worse. I decided to get a Vevor 36,000mg/h ozone generator to tackle the odor. I've tried several sessions—10 and 15 minutes, plus two 30-minute sessions, all with good ventilation between uses. While the smell is better, it's still lingering at about 70%. It seems like the smoke has really settled into the porous plaster and the insulation. I'm hesitant to keep running the ozone generator because I've heard it might damage the materials. So, do you think just painting over it could fix the smell, or should I wash the walls first and use a waterproofing primer? Any advice would really help! Thanks!

Be careful with that ozone generator! It’s great for removing odors but can also be harmful to your health. If the odor is coming from the walls, running it while you’re out for a long period could work, but make sure your neighbors are safe too. Definitely consider washing the walls first and sealing them to fully eliminate the smell.

Totally agree! Keep that safety in mind. It might be a pain, but ensuring you're not inhaling any harmful stuff is worth the hassle.

It sounds like you didn’t run the ozone generator long enough! Usually, you should let it do its thing for at least 6-8 hours with good ventilation. But make sure no one is in the room while it’s running because ozone can be harmful. The manual can be conservative, but for smoky odors, longer sessions are often more effective.

Yeah, just be careful! Even short bursts can be risky; running it too long could still create issues. I’d stick to what the manual suggests, but maybe just give it a full session with proper precautions.

Instead of regular paint, you should definitely look for odor-blocking primers. Kilz is a popular choice, so check if you can find something similar in Europe. If you’ve got any carpets, though, just know that the smell tends to stick around unless you replace them. But since you mentioned you don’t have carpet, that's good news!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try to find the primer for sure!
