I've got my washer and dryer set up on the second floor, and they vent up there too. I was thinking about using my small but powerful vacuum cleaner like a backpack to climb up a ladder and suck out all the lint from the vent. Am I crazy for considering this? The back of the dryer is pretty hard to reach from inside. Plus, I'm wondering if the vacuum might be too strong for that silver flexible vent hose. Any thoughts?

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend using a vacuum for this. It’s likely you're not going to get all the lint out that way. Instead, consider getting one of those dryer vent brush kits that comes with flexible rods. You can attach it to a drill and reach into the vent much more effectively.
Have you thought about using a leaf blower instead? You can stick that into the dryer vent and blow the lint out. Just make sure to do it when no one is nearby, or you might end up blowing lint all over the neighborhood!
A vacuum might be a bit overkill here. If you do decide to try it, consider blowing air instead of sucking it up. It's usually easier to push the lint out from the inside out.
