What’s the Deal with Birds Nesting in My Electrical Box?

Hey everyone! I just noticed a bird's nest inside the electrical box on my porch this morning, and I'm a bit concerned. Is it harmful to the electrical box to have a nest in there? Should I take any action, or is it okay to leave it as is? Also, could the presence of the nest pose any danger to the birds? I'd really appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks! I've attached a picture below for reference.

Definitely document it! It’s unusual for birds to nest in electrical boxes since they’re usually closed off. Birds tend to return to successful nesting spots, so removing it soon is a good idea before they get too comfy! Once you’ve got it resolved, consider placing birdhouses nearby as an alternative for them.

Great idea about the birdhouses! I'll look into that.

Hey there! It's not safe to have birds nesting in your electrical box. That hole shouldn't be open like that; there should be a knockout cover. Having birds in there can lead to potential sparks or even fires if they touch something they shouldn't. I'd recommend calling an electrician ASAP to get it fixed up.

Good to know! I didn't realize it could be that dangerous.
