Hey everyone! I recently refreshed my raised bed by weeding it and adding some organic, peat-free soil along with a thin layer of mulch. Just two days after this, I noticed a swarm of gnats when I went to water my plants. Are these little bugs harmful? I've heard it might be due to overwatering, but my soil seemed pretty dry, and my squash plant looked a bit wilted. I'm worried—is my soil contaminated? What can I do to prevent this sort of issue in the future?

A layer of mosquito bits along with some perlite on top of your soil could do the trick! This combo helps keep the soil from staying too moist while also preventing gnats. Give it a shot and see how it goes!
