As a cofounder of a company that develops DIY electronics kits, I've realized that I need to better understand what features the community values. If I were learning electronics again, my key features would include in-depth educational documentation, usability after completion, and component availability for future projects. I'm curious to know what features you all would expect, whether you're just starting or if you had these kits when you began your journey!

When it comes to shipping, honesty is vital! I’m facing a bit of a crisis with a late order right now—advertised 3-5 days, and it’s been a month with zero customer service response. Also, if you’re using 3D printed parts, make it easier for people to get parts separately. I wanted to buy replacement parts for a kit I got my son, but I had to redo a whole piece instead.

Heathkit had a great run back in the day because their kits were affordable. Automation has made it tough to compete with that pricing now. Too many modern kits just require final assembly, which takes away the fun of building something from scratch. If you can tackle these issues and keep some kits accessible, you'll make a significant impact!

Definitely agree on the need for solid educational documentation. I recently bought an old Radio Shack 130-in-1 kit and was really impressed with the handbook that came with it. It’s a bit tricky now; I feel like everyone jumps to coding with Arduino, losing out on learning the basics of discrete components. It’s ideal to have projects that you can keep and use, rather than just packing everything back after one-time use.

Absolutely! Those old kits sparked a lot of passion for electronics. While Arduino is cool, I believe we should still focus on analog electronics and PCB design—those fundamentals seem to be getting overlooked.
