I'm looking for recommendations on a reliable level meter for my septic holding tank. I want to be able to monitor the level so I know when it's time to call for a pump-out, instead of having to manually dip the tank. Can anyone help?

I think there might be some confusion about what you have. If it's a proper holding tank, it’s designed to be pumped out when full. Since you said your tank collects all waste water, make sure you clarify that—it sounds like you need it pumped out 1-2 times yearly at least! You probably won’t find a meter that works perfectly for that. Maybe look for something simple to maintain instead?
You should specify what you want from the meter. Are you just looking to know the overall level? If that's the case, a traditional meter might not work well since most septic systems are mostly full of liquid. You might be better off just using a stick—it’s less complicated, and you won’t need to worry about differentiating solids from liquids.
Yeah, that's exactly my concern too. I don’t want to get into the hassle of constantly checking complicated systems when a simple method can do the job.

Exactly! I didn't realize the difference until recently. My in-laws definitely went for a simpler solution at their cottage, and it seems like it works just fine.
