I just had the fire department at my house because we noticed a strong electrical burning smell. They came, checked our entire house, including the laundry room where the smell was strongest, and even used thermal imaging cameras. Unfortunately, they couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. They recommended that I get an electrician and my HVAC technician to take a look, which is scheduled for Friday. We're all a bit on edge about leaving for work tomorrow, fearing we might come back to a disaster. Any thoughts on what else I could do in the meantime?

Did anyone check your washing machine? Sometimes, the area where the soap goes or the motherboard can have shorts or even small fires. I had a similar issue once, and it smelled just like that!
What heating system do you have? If it’s electric, there could be an issue with it. You might want to get that checked out right away!
You might want to turn off the main breaker before you head to work just to be safe. That way, if there’s something going on with the wiring, it won't have a chance to get worse while you’re out.
If you have anything with duct work, it's a good idea to turn it off and step out for a bit. See if the smell fades after you leave, then turn it back on and check if it comes back. Better safe than sorry!

Yeah, it’s an electric system. That's why we're worried.
