Can I Get a Refund to My Credit Card After Using a Gift Card?

I'm trying to figure out what will happen if I return an item after purchasing it with a combination of a gift card and my credit card. I have a $150 Home Depot gift card and I'm planning to buy a tool for $145 and a free battery for $80. So, I'd use my gift card for $150 and my credit card for $75. If I return the battery, will the refund go back to my credit card, or will I end up with store credit instead?

In my experience, if you use a credit card and a gift card together, the refund will go back to the credit card for what was charged to it. So, in your case, if you return the battery, you should get the $75 back on your credit card, and if there's any leftover from the gift card, that might go back as store credit. Just make sure the cashier knows to process it correctly when you're making the return!

From what I've heard, when you use a gift card for part of your purchase, any refund for that portion typically goes back onto a gift card as well. So, if you return the battery, it’s likely that you'd only get store credit for that $80 back, not a refund to your credit card. It's always good to check with the store policy just to be sure!
