I'm looking to use some free pallets I acquired to kick off a few beginner woodworking projects. I know pallets aren't the best option for this kind of work, but I think it might be worth trying out. My first question is about the best ways to remove nails from the pallets or boards. Should I be cautious? Also, is it better to keep the boards rough or give them a bit of sanding? My first project is going to be an outdoor workbench that I'd like to use for a year or two. After that, I'm thinking of making a small side table to accompany my outdoor benches as a more polished "practice" piece. I'm open to any extra advice as well! Thanks!

There are plenty of DIY videos on YouTube that show different techniques and tools for pallet projects. Just a heads up, it might be wise to use a metal detector afterward, even if you think you've got all the nails out, especially if you plan on using power tools. Safety first!
Using good magnets to run over the boards is a great idea! They can help pick up any hidden staples or nail bits that might be stuck in, so you don’t end up hitting something while cutting.
Honestly, don’t stress too much about pulling out all the nails unless you need specific pieces. It’s often quicker to just cut around them. And absolutely, sanding is worth it if you plan on working with the boards later on.
