My husband and I recently bought a house built in 1966, and it has this terrible geode/crystal-like siding that I absolutely hate. I'm looking to replace it with a dark wood color, but I'm unsure about the best approach. I initially thought about removing the siding completely, but that seems too time-consuming and costly. Is there a way to fill in the gaps between the stones and then sand it down to attach the wood boards? I'm pretty handy with DIY projects, but I've never tackled anything like this before! By the way, I found out it's called Bottle Dash Stucco, but mine looks particularly cloudy with varying crystal sizes.

Filling it sounds like a major hassle. If it’s just a veneer, I’d suggest cleaning it up, priming, and painting instead! It could save you a ton of work and hassle.
Yeah, that does sound like a brutal project! But how do I upload pictures to show exactly what I’m dealing with? Also, it seems more like the rocks are cemented in rather than just a veneer. What if the paint ends up looking tacky?
