How Do I Keep My Rosemary Plants Alive?

Asked By GreenThumbGamer92 On

I've attempted to grow rosemary a few times without success, and I'm starting to feel frustrated. I've heard people say that rosemary is drought resistant, yet every time I try, they die on me. I'm not overwatering, but it seems like they need just the right amount of water. I see other people with large rosemary bushes outside, and I really want to know how they do it! I'm considering starting from seeds this time, but I'd appreciate any tips on what I'm doing wrong.

Honestly, I'm not much of a gardener either, but my rosemary turned into a hedge almost! It really could be your soil type; maybe it's holding too much moisture?

I usually get soil that comes with the plants. How big were yours before you planted them?

Rosemary plants are actually drought tolerant once they're established, which means they can survive short dry spells. However, when they're newly planted, they need regular soaking to help their small roots grow. It's essential to let the soil dry out a bit between watering sessions. Plus, they thrive in well-draining soil—not muddy conditions—so keep that in mind if you're planting them outside!

I had no idea they needed to dry out a little before soaking again. Do you have any tips for prepping them for outdoor planting?
