I'm looking to replace the attic insulation in my dad's older home, which suffered damage from rats and raccoons. They ruined about 1,034 square feet of insulation in less than a month, and now that they're gone, I want to make sure my dad isn't overcharged for the repair work. What should I expect the cost to be for a company to completely remove the old insulation and install new insulation?

For a similar area in my 1970s house, we paid around $2,200 for air sealing and R60 blown fiberglass insulation on top of the existing stuff. Some quotes came in a bit higher but offered potential energy rebates. Just a heads up, removing old insulation will cost extra. I’d say if you get a quote over $5k, it’s probably too high!
It's definitely a good idea to get multiple estimates! While they're up in the attic, make sure they also do some air sealing. It makes a big difference in energy efficiency and can save you money in the long run.
Wow, that's helpful! I got my first quote for $11,200, and they keep trying to lower the price. Now I'm suspicious of that company. I’d rather go with someone trustworthy.
