Hey fellow gardeners! I'm curious if anyone else is noticing a lack of honeybees this year. I'm in zone 8 in upstate South Carolina, and I planted my vegetable starts a couple of weeks ago along with a bunch of flowering plants to attract pollinators. The temperatures have been pretty mild, mostly in the 60s at night and 70s to 80s during the day. However, I haven't seen any honeybees so far this season. Last year, they were buzzing around my pond all spring and summer, but this year, it feels eerily quiet. Have any of you experienced similar patterns with your gardens?

I’ve noticed quite a few bees in my garden here on the Space Coast in Florida. It really bums me out to hear others are struggling to find them. I keep my yard full of native plants, and they seem to thrive. Hopefully, you'll have better luck soon!
That's great to hear! I've been trying to plant more native species too, but I'm worried about the chemical usage in the area affecting my local bees.
Unfortunately, honeybee populations are declining across the country, which may explain your situation. There have been reports about the alarming rate at which they're disappearing. It's concerning for all of us who rely on them for pollination in our gardens!

I live in zone 6b, and I just started to see some bumblebees and honeybees coming out over the last couple of days. It seems like the timing might vary a lot based on local climate conditions. Hang in there, they could still show up!
I'm in 6b too and I’ve had a variety of bees visiting my garden recently. So maybe it’s just a matter of time for you!
I have a similar experience in Northwest Arkansas; my garden is buzzing with bees this year just like every other year. I think less pesticide use in our area helps a lot!
