Hey everyone! I've got a whole house fan in my home, built back in 1988 near Atlanta, and I'm starting to think about removing it. The house is pretty humid, and honestly, the fan sounds like a truck when it's on. I only really found it useful when something went wrong in the kitchen, but now I have a proper range vent. My partner keeps complaining about pollen and mold, making it tough to even open the windows. For those who have removed their whole house fans, do you regret it?

I’ve got one of those fans too, but it’s pretty useless now since we’ve got mini split ACs. It’s loud and my wife hates it. I'm planning to remove it and turn the space into an attic ladder. Maybe next year!
I remember how great my family’s whole house fan was when I was a kid. It really helped cool things down on warm summer nights. But nowadays, it hardly cools off at night like it used to, and I think the effectiveness is gone. If I kept mine, I’d probably get a modern replacement that's quieter and better insulated.
I totally get the pollen struggle! The last place I lived had a similar fan, but we ended up just sealing it off because it was an eyesore and didn't really do much anymore. Covering it up with insulation is a great way to help your HVAC too!
I mean, why not just leave it if you don't use it often? But if your upstairs HVAC is working overtime due to the humidity, maybe it's time for it to go. Plus, since you have a better kitchen vent now, it seems like you don't need both. Just a thought!
Absolutely! In Atlanta, May gets super humid, and you definitely don’t need that extra energy drain if you're rarely using the fan.
Yeah, modern fans can be way quieter! It might be worth it if you still want to keep that feature without the noise.
