I'm looking for guidance on how to properly size the wire and breaker for my grid-tied solar system, specifically from the inverter to the service panel. I've noticed that a lot of documentation skips over this info, which I'm guessing is intentional. I need to provide detailed specs to my electrician for my permit submission, and a few I've consulted don't seem very knowledgeable about solar installations. You should definitely check out the Voltage Drop app; it’s a handy tool for figuring out wire sizes. For sizing the breaker, you want to calculate the load for that circuit and set the breaker at about 115% of the load. This way, you're safe and compliant. Just make sure your wire can handle that load too!
Thanks for that! So, if I'm using a 5kW inverter, that means I should size the breaker for 5.75kW? Just want to be sure I don’t goof up before the inspection!
