Help! My Tub/Shower Diverter Isn’t Working Properly

Hey everyone! I'm currently renting a house and I've run into a problem with the tub/shower diverter. When I pull the rod to switch to the shower, the water just keeps coming out of the tub faucet instead of diverting. I had a mishap where the rod and gate fell apart after my last shower. I managed to put the gate and rod back together, and it worked once but came apart again. I tried a repair kit but it's still not working. I have a feeling the gate shouldn't be hanging down like it is, especially with a new gate and rod installed. I don't see any damage to the faucet either. I'm totally new to plumbing stuff and at my wit's end—should I just call a plumber?

You definitely might want to check the images of your setup. If the diverter gate is not seating properly, it definitely could be a misalignment or an installation issue. Sometimes just reseating everything can make a huge difference. If you're still stuck after trying that, calling in a plumber isn't a bad idea. They can help you avoid further issues in the long run!

It sounds like you're in a tricky situation! A lot of times, the problems with diverters stem from the gasket being installed incorrectly. Have you checked to see if the gasket might be facing the wrong way? If you take a look at some YouTube tutorials, there are great guides on how to fix those kinds of issues. Here's a link to one that might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lClaTg5gLU8.
