What’s the Long-Term Viability of 20V Batteries?

As a homeowner and DIY enthusiast just starting to invest in 20V tools, I'm curious about their long-term viability. I've heard stories about the pain when the 18V platform was phased out for many users. Should I be worried that my new 20V tools will become obsolete before I get a good lifespan out of them?

Honestly, you shouldn't worry at all! Dewalt’s 20V line isn’t going anywhere. Their tools are built to last, and even if your battery dies, you can always find replacements or adapters that can help you keep using your tools for years.

Don't stress too much! The shift to 20V was more about improving battery chemistry from NiCd/NiMH to Li-ion rather than actual voltage changes. Newer formats like 18650s and 21700s are becoming standard thanks to not just power tools but also electric vehicles. Unless a groundbreaking battery chemistry emerges, this setup is here to stay.

It looks like the 20V batteries will be around for a while! The fact that they've kept the same attachment style and voltage means they’re committed to this format. Given how popular the 18V and 20V systems are, I doubt we'll see major changes any time soon.
