I accidentally nicked the top flange of an I-joist while drilling a hole for Cat-6 using a 9/32" flexible drill bit. Here's a link to the image of the damage: https://imgur.com/a/7z4la4m. I'm wondering if I should leave it as is, attempt a DIY repair, or get a professional involved. I found some technical manuals on repair techniques from I-Joist manufacturers, but I'm not sure how to interpret them for my situation.

I would just clean up the area with a multi-tool to remove the splinters and possibly drill a new hole in a better spot. It's really not a major issue at all!
Honestly, it should be fine! The main strength comes from the vertical section of the beam. The caps are mostly for attachment, so a little nick shouldn't cause too much trouble.
They do help prevent twisting or buckling, but a small nick like that won't really compromise their function.
Thanks for the tip! Just wondering, if I clear the splinters and don't plan to reinforce the flange, is there any reason I should still drill a new hole? It's pretty centered where it is.
