Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a step-stool for my niece who's a toddler, and I want to make it safe for her to use even when she's wearing socks. I'm considering adding a non-slip additive to the final coat. I'll be using Emtech water-based lacquer as the finish, which I've had good luck with before, but I noticed that the anti-slip powder from Rust-Oleum only mentions compatibility with oil-based finishes. Does anyone know if it's possible to add this kind of non-slip additive to a water-based lacquer, or would it not work? Thanks!

A cool trick is to spray a light coat and, while it’s still wet, sprinkle a bit of sand on top. After it dries according to the instructions, you can apply another couple of coats on top to protect the sand.
I recommend using very fine sand as an additive. Just keep in mind you'll need to spray it on for the best results. Don't worry if you haven't tried spraying before; it's not too tricky!
