Hey folks! I just set up my Bosch 1617 router with a table and am trying to get my home shop rolling. I opted for a set of Ryobi bits because I was already spending a fortune on equipment and didn't want to go overboard. However, I've only used them a few times, and they seem to struggle, especially when edging walnut. Am I right to suspect the Ryobi bits are the problem? Also, what brands do you all swear by for router bits?

Honestly, Ryobi bits are cheap for a reason. If you’re on a budget, Diablo bits aren’t too bad either, but if you want quality, go for Whiteside. They even offer sharpening for their bits, which is a steal considering new bits can be pricey!
You really do get what you pay for with router bits. I picked up the advice early in my woodworking journey to buy bits as I needed them, and it’s worked out great for me. Right now, my go-to bits are a 1/2” pattern bit, a 3/4” mortising bit for grooves, and a 1/4” round over bit, which is my default unless I’m looking for something specific. Just stay away from the odd profile bits unless you're absolutely sure you’ll use them; they're often one-project wonders that end up collecting dust.
For me, it's all about Whiteside bits. They really perform well. But remember to check your router’s speed and feed rate! Sometimes, taking multiple passes can save you from a dull cut, no matter how good the bits are. I tend to stick with brands like Whiteside, Amana, Freud, and CMT.
