I'm looking to replace a missing door in a frame that measures about 32 inches high. The trim is still intact with part of the hinges left over from when we bought the house, but I don't have the old door to measure. I've been reading that a 30 inch door slab might be the right choice, but I'm worried about gaps and it being too narrow. Conversely, I heard a 32 inch door could fit but would need trimming. Can anyone give me advice on which size to go for?

It sounds like a 32" door is the way to go for your frame size. You want to leave about an 1/8" gap on each side, so a 30" door would likely leave you with too much space. Make sure to measure carefully and expect to do a bit of trimming to make it fit just right!
If you’re new to this, I’d recommend going for a pre-hung door. It’s usually easier to install compared to retrofitting a slab into an existing frame. You’d spend less time worrying about fit and more time getting your door up!
Does that really make the installation easier? I’m a bit intimidated by hanging a door!
