I've got this old brick chimney on the back of my house that really stands out for all the wrong reasons. It's looking pretty faded and dirty. Some people say painting it is a bad idea, but I'm wondering what my options are. Should I just clean it up instead?

Honestly, painting brick can be seen as a bit of a disaster. Before you think about any paint, why not try cleaning it first? You might be surprised by how well it cleans up with just a bit of effort!
I'd recommend power washing it! It might be a bit of work, but I think it's totally worth it. Just be careful, though; you don't want to damage the mortar. A good masonry cleaner followed by some low-pressure washing could do the trick, too.

Good point! I’ve heard pressure washing can be risky on brick, so starting with a cleaner sounds smart.
