Concern Over Possible Attic Damage – Need Your Insights

Last night, I heard a dripping sound in my son's room, even though it wasn't raining anymore. The noise stopped after about 15 minutes. I did some digging and found advice saying to check the attic after the rain, so I took a look. In the attic, I discovered something above his room, but I'm not sure if it's the source of the issue since it's raining now, and I don't hear any dripping or see any leaks right now (check out the picture here: https://imgur.com/a/cQKZrgq). Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

It's great that you're keeping an eye on things after the rain! Just keep monitoring the situation. If you notice any more drips or damp spots, it might be a good idea to get a professional to take a look, especially if there's evidence of damage like you've mentioned.

From the photo, it looks like there might be some rotting in the rafter, but the decking seems okay. It’s tough to tell for sure without seeing it from another angle. If the roof is failing, even if you replace a rafter, you'd probably run into the same problems again down the line, possibly worse.

Decking, like the floor of the attic? Just trying to clarify what you mean.
