I recently planted periwinkle as ground cover in my garden, hoping it will replace the ivy that's taken over. However, I came across some discussions warning against periwinkle. Am I making a mistake by using it as ground cover? Should I remove it now before it gets out of control?

I say a big no to planting Vinca major! I planted it once and ended up struggling for years to manage it. It spread everywhere, even made its way to my front yard! If you can identify which type you have and it's major, I’d recommend removing it now to save yourself a lot of future headaches.
Honestly, if you planted Vinca major, be ready for some work. It spreads quickly and can take over if you don’t keep it in check. I have to pull it out every year, and while it fills in well, I wouldn’t choose to plant it again. So if you can, maybe consider a mix or just stick with the minor variety!
