Hey everyone! I'm starting my first balcony garden with veggies and fruits and could really use some advice on the best types of containers to use. I'm leaning towards grow bags but want to avoid plastic. I've thought about terracotta, but I'm worried they'll get too hot and dry out. Cedar containers are an option, but I prefer something smaller than raised beds. I'm also considering the Vego-style planters. I'm planning to grow a couple of tomato plants, some peppers, one eggplant, and a strawberry. Ideally, I'd like the containers to be about 18 inches deep, but I need to keep the weight in check since it's a balcony!

I'd suggest slightly larger containers than you think you'll need, and definitely go for a good potting mix! Make sure the plant varieties you choose fit well in the space; tomatoes can work on a balcony, but some types need more sunlight and soil than others. Also, check how much sun your balcony gets—if it’s got low light, consider sticking with herbs or lettuce instead.
I found some cherry tomatoes that thrive in pots and my balcony gets a lot of bright sunlight, even though it’s covered. What do you mean by oversizing the pots? Any specific soil recommendations?
