I'm curious about all of your experiences with injuries while carving. What's the worst injury you've had? I once had a nasty incident where my band saw blade broke and I ended up cutting my thumb, which required three stitches!

About a year and a half ago, I bought a mini gouge and thought the handle was too long, so I cut it down. While working on a canoe, I lifted it in a way that caused the gouge to slip right through the piece, cutting 2mm into my palm. I got lucky with a small scar this time, but the doc reminded me that cut-resistant gloves aren't stab-proof! Always support your work properly, everyone!

That sounds really intense! Glad you weren't hurt worse. I'll definitely keep in mind how important it is to support my pieces better.

I was using an X-ACTO knife to carve some intricate details and ended up stabbing my finger. Only needed a couple of stitches though, but it definitely taught me to be extra careful!

Not directly carving-related, but at a concert, I did a move where I accidentally hurt my foot. Turns out I fractured my heel! I still went all out for the last show, though, but had to wear a boot for four months. Just goes to show you can get hurt even when you’re just having fun!
